ITANAGAR, Nov 28: The Congress in Arunachal Pradesh today joined the nation-wide protest against demonetisation and demanded an enquiry by a Parliamentary Standing Committee on the black money stashed abroad.
Joining the 'Akrosh Diwas' protest against demonetisation, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) asked the Centre to enhance the withdrawal limit of cash from ATMs and banks to ease public inconveniences.
Thousands of Congress workers holding placards joined the protest at Indira Gandhi Park here and unequivocally denounced Prime Minister Narendra Modi's move as "a political move being sold as a fight against corruption".
Addressing the gathering, former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki said that the NDA government's demonetisation move came at a time when the country was passing through a crucial phase.
"The BJP is trying to create intolerance and want to make the country economically weak. The prime minister took a hurried decision for which people are forced to suffer in remote and inaccessible areas where there are no facilities of banks and ATMs," Tuki said.
He said the current slogan of the prime minister for cashless transaction did not match with the present scenario as most of the villages in the country were without bank and ATM facilities.
"First provide all facilities and then go for demonetisation," he said and alleged that the NDA government had informed all its leaders six months in advance about the move.
He said before such a move, an ordinance should have come up and passed by both the houses of the Parliament.
Denouncing Modi's claim that the move was aimed at curbing terrorism and check black money, Tuki said that there were various laws which could have been implemented to curb the menace instead of harassing the common man.
APCC President Padi Richo while terming demonetisation as 'de-Moditisation' said, "Majority of the country's population are not happy with the move and days are not far away when the people will give a befitting reply to it".
AIMC General Secretary, Jarjum Ete, APCC General Secretary, Tana Jeri, APYC Vice-President, Niglar Veo, INTUC state unit Secretary General, Kenkar Yomcha and NSUI state unit Vice-President, Jotam Toko Hannan also spoke on the occasion.

The Karmapa arrives to a rousing reception at Tawang
TAWANG, Nov 28: His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje, who was accompanied by MHA Advisor, Amitabh Mathur was accorded a grand reception here at Ugyen Tsangpo Helipad at Changprong today.
Earlier, Chief Minister Pema Khandu offered a warm reception to His Holiness at the Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati, and accompanied him on his onward journey to Tawang by helicopter.
On his arrival here, RWD Parliamentary Secretary Jambey Tashi, MLA Tawang Tsering Tashi along with top district officials, public leaders and local public, welcomed His Holiness. Also Abbot of Sera-Jae-Jamyang Choekorling monastery and Mon Palpung Jangchup Choekorling Monastery, including senior monks and nuns were present.
Upon his arrival, His Holiness who is the head of the 900-year-old Karma Kagyu lineage and guide to millions of Buddhists around the world visited the Sera-Jae-Jamyang Choekorling monastery and attended the rituals. The rituals included the offering of mande-ten-sum by the Abbot, followed by the Tibetan Buddhism debate and preaching.
Following his visit to Sangyeling monastery, His Holiness visited the famous Tawang monastery, where the Abbot of Monastery, Gankar Tulku Rimpoche and the Chief Minister offered the ritual of mande-ten-sum. This was followed by Lhamu Tsokhar and Durda dances performed by the monks.
Earlier on his way to Tawang monastery, His Holiness was given a warm reception by the local people. The people of Tawang greeted his Holiness with great emotions and love. The people had been anxiously waiting for His Holiness visit and thorough preparations had gone for past many days.
His Holiness expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and said that he was fortunate to have visited Tawang. He thanked the Chief Minister and Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju for taking the initiative for his visit.
Addressing the people at Tawang monastery, His Holiness urged the people to have firm faith on the teachings of Buddha and His Holiness The Dalai Lama. He advised them to carry forward the understandings of Buddhist philosophy and science and to imbibe within them the same in their daily life.
The Karmapa also stressed on the importance of faith towards Buddha Dharma and discipline among the monks. He urged the Sanghas to be in harmony to prevent outside forces from hampering the progress of Buddhism in Monyul. PTI
DGBR reviews progress of critical roads
ITANAGAR, Nov 28: Director General BRO, Lt Gen Suresh Sharma reviewed the progress of construction of TCC-Taksing and Maza roads in Upper Subansiri district on Saturday last.
The DG visited Taksing and Reddi to inspect the ongoing formation cutting from Taksing. Thereafter, the DG alongwith OC 128 RCC, and Cdr 23 TF inspected the entire uncut portion of seven Kms.
He also inspected the newly launched 120 feet DDR extra wide bailey bridge across Bate Nala between Limeking and Nacho.
The launch of this bridge was completed on 23 Nov 2016. Bate Nala has been a major obstacle on this road, obstructing the traffic frequently for months during the rainy season. With the launching of this bridge, the road Daporijo-Limeking-Gelensiniak of 180 Kms length has been rendered an all weather road.
Later, the DG also reviewed the Sarli-Huri road work.
Hage Tado Nanya crowned Mrs Arunachal -2016
ITANAGAR, NOV 28: Hage Tado Nanya, 59, from Ziro was crowned the Mrs. Arunachal -2016. The title winner walked away with cash prize of Rs two lakh and also got a chance to visit Thailand. Yami Nayam, 38, of Taliha and Gyamar Yal, 36, a Govt. servant and a social activist bagged the first and second runners up respectively along with 1 lakh cash prize plus trip to Thailand each.
The grand finale of the Mrs. Arunachal -2016 with the theme 'Mother of Substance' was successfully organized by Ngurang Learning Institute at the Dree ground here on November 26. Altogether 18 contestants took part in the Mrs. Arunachal -2016 and each of them won title and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000. While participating in the event Chief Minister Pema Khandu also announced Rs. 50,000 for each of the contestant.
The winner has to sign a contract with Ngurang Learning Institute for 1 year to work with them for women empowerment.
Both Mrs. Arunachal Hage Tado Nanya and 1st runner up-cum-Mrs. Versatile Yami Nayam are associated with Art of Living.
Both the winners expressed their gratitude to the Art of Living and its founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. "My regular practice of yoga, meditation, Sudarshan Kriya largely contributed in making of the personality I have today. Without them, I wouldn't have come this far," exhorted Hage Tado Nanya. Citizens defy capital bandh

ITANAGAR, Nov 28: The 12 hours Capital bandh called by Arunachal Youth Organisation (AYO) in protest against the state government alleged lackadaisical attitude towards their nine-point charter of demand apparently failed to create any impact, as the citizens, shopkeepers and government officials openly defied the bandh call.
Normal activities were seen in twin city of Itanagar and Naharlagun as shops remained open, vehicles were plying on the road and the government offices are functioning as usual.
Initially, few tyres were seen burning at roadside which was later cleared by the police personnel. The few shops which remained closed till 9 AM were later seen open.
Capital Complex DC Sandeep Kumar Singh informed The Arunachal Times that six persons have reportedly been detained for allegedly resorting to cripple normal life. "No stray incidents were reported so far. Six persons were detained who were trying to disturb normal life" said DC Capital.
He further claimed that all shops and market remained open and vehicles, both private and government were plying and the offices and banks were open apart from a few. The police also denied any stray incidents during the 12 hours bandh.
AYO charters of demands included continuation of Governor's office of memorandum order on officiating, functional and out of turns promotion, initiation of CBI enquiry into infamous Multi-crore PDS scam and abduction drama of SIC chief M J Chauhan at Tipi, eviction drive against illegally encroached government quarters within Capital and district headquarters, appointment of Chairman/Vice Chairman from among the elected legislators, early construction of Green Field Airport, revocation of district based entrepreneurship Act, revocation of Mon and Patkai Autonomous Councils and revelation of late CM KalikhoPul's diary to public etc.
Waterman advocates Jal Kranti in Arunachal

NEW DELHI, Nov 28: Every drop of water being life saving is a matter of global concern today while people of NE India, particularly Arunachal Pradesh are blessed children of nature, India's waterman Rajendra Singh said here today after returning from Nairobi.
Singh, who won Raman Magsaysay Award for community leadership in 2001 & Stockholm Water Prize, known as Nobel prize for water-2015, was interacting with Arunachal Pradesh National Youth Project (NYP) president H P Biswas & vice president Pradeep Kumar during a chance meeting at Gandhi Peace Foundation.
The noted water conservationist is right as Arunachal's ground water utilization is below 1%, lowest in the country against national average of over 50%. India has so far harnessed 30% of its huge 1,58,000-MW hydropower potential, 70% in Arunachal though water is a state subject in India
"I have launched Vishwa Jal Kranti Abhiyan through my NGO Tarun Bharat Sangh and touring the world to protect the water resources from pollution and utilise for the humanity", Singh said before leaving for Thailand. His abhiyan bodes well with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's view, who in his public address at Itanagar on 20.08.15 had said, "pahad ki pani aur pahad ki jawani, pahadiyon ka kaam nahi aata hey".
Prof. DS Bhargava, who has been collecting samples from various rivers for testing, had found that Ganges water contains 25 times higher oxygen level than that of any other river, which explains its self-purifying quality. Water of many rivers including Ganga (worshipped as mother) is polluted by discharge of highly polluting industries, night soils from latrines & dumping of wastes. The polluted water has been causing serious diseases to human beings," said industrialist Kapur on Sunday while interacting with NYP director Dr S N Subba Rao.
He has set up industries to purify polluted water discharged by industries for other usage, he said, adding that he was shocked to find the misuse of water in Arunachal during a survey.

Notably, Delhi Jal Board (DJB) under the guidance of former chief secretary Ramesh Negi as its chief executive officer during 2008-12 did commendable job that won DJB the International Water Performance Initiative Award-2014 the Global Water Summit, themed 'Water for Growth', at Paris during April 6-8.
Weeklong Community awareness programme on disaster management held
ZIRO, Nov 28: A week-long Community Awareness Programme cum Familiarization Exercises conducted by District Disaster Management Authority, Ziro in collaboration with 12 Bn National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Doimukh in various locations of the district concluded on Monday.
Team led by DDMO Nima Drema along with Assistant Commandant P Nupajao Singh, Inspector Shibu Mondal, Sub-Inspector Gyananand Chand, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sunil Kumar and other 34 personnel from 12th Bn NDRF, Doimukh carried out their awareness programmes at GHSS Hapoli, GHSS Hija, GHSS Yazali, Govt College Yachuli, Saint Claret College Old Ziro, VKV Dobi and VKV Joram.
Elaborating on various types of disasters happening around the world, the team led by DDMO, Ziro said community is the first responder to any disaster, so training the community is the priority of the department and requested all the participants to take advantage of the programme and make themselves disaster literate and prepare themselves for any mishap.
The team also spoke on Search and Rescue Operation, first aid techniques etc. with practical demonstration. Leaflets and posters on Disaster Preparedness Tips, Dos and Don'ts were also distributed to the participants during the programmes. (DIPRO)
Chakka bandh passes off peacefully

PASIGHAT, Nov 28: The 12 hours chakka bandh called by villagers of Rengging village passed off peacefully without any untoward incident. The bandh was called in protest against alleged failure of the authorities to recall the order issued by district administration on November 17 last directing the Trans Arunachal Highway construction agency to stop collection of quarry materials from the Rengging village area.
The villagers completely blocked the Pasighat-Pangin Road from both approaches to Rengging village at Sirki (in between Pasighat and Rengging) and near Rottung (in between Rengging and Pangin) since this morning and no vehicles were allowed to ply but exemption were made to some emergency cases.
In their letter written to Chief Secretary on 21st November seeking immediate intervention to revoke the order, the villagers had pleaded that East Siang DC had passed an ex-parte order while directing construction agency to halt the work until a local Kebang is called on November 30 through Circle Officer (Kebang) and resolve the dispute. The villagers said that, no persons except people from Rengging village owns land in and around Rengging village and after the coming up of road projects in the region, some unscrupulous people with malafide intention are trying their luck to claim some portion of land as their ancestral land (Morang) before establishment of Rengging Village. According to villagers of Rengging, they had tried to convince the DC to recall his executive order, but the DC paid no heed. With no alternative left, the villagers called Chakka Bandh today and threatened to call more rigorous bandh from first week of December next if their demands are not met.
Meanwhile, SP East Siang, Pranav Tayal said that, law & order has been maintained properly and police kept strong vigil over the bandh. On view of the Chief Secretary's Pasighat visit from Tuesday to inspect Civil terminal sites at ALG, Pasighat along with IAF officials, the law & order has been beeped up, informed sources from police.
3-week refresher course for college and university teachers at NEHU
ITANAGAR, Nov 28: A three-week Refresher Course for college and university teachers on the theme 'Perspectives on Hazards and their Management' began at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, NEHU on Monday. The function was presided over by Prof. D. K. Nayak, Dean, School of Human and Environmental Sciences.
Speaking during the inaugural session, Pro Vice-Chancellor, NEHU, Shillong Prof. Henry Lamin saying that the theme of the programme is highly appropriate in the present situation emphasised on the need to educate communities and organise various kinds of awareness to reduce disaster losses.
He was impressed to see the participants, apart from Meghalaya and other North Eastern States, from as far as Maharashtra, Haryana and West Bengal who are attending the Refresher Course.
Director UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, Prof. Rakesh Mohan in his speech spoke on the importance of Refresher Courses in general for career advancement of teachers.
'After attending the course, whatever updates in their professional knowledge they have received, should be passed on to their students at their respective colleges and departments,' he urged.
Course Coordinator of the Refresher Course in Earth Sciences and Geography Prof. Sunil Kumar De also spoke.
Cluster level sports meet at Oyan begins

PASIGHAT, Nov 28: Cluster Level Sports Meet of Upper Primary Schools under Ruksin block began with participation of students, teachers and local villagers at Oyan UPS playground on Monday.
Inaugurating the week-long sports meet, Block Education Officer (BEO) of Ruksin, Tanyo Tapak referring to games & sports as an indispensable part of learning said that it is necessary for sound physical and mental health of young students.
He suggested the young players to maintain discipline and sense of brotherhood during the game.
Saying that the state government is putting all out effort on development of sports sector in the state, the BEO said that the cluster and district level sports event is providing right platform to young student to expose their hidden talent at their level.
Cluster Level Sports Committee Chairman Bajom Gao advised the young players to play with true sportsman spirit and show their talents, while committee secretary, Jitendra Pait urged the teachers to encourage their students to compete in all sports events.
The week-long sports event includes football match, competitions of race, discus and shot put competition, high jump and long jump etc.
Revive single-person runloin loom culture: Gyan

NEW DELHI, Nov 28: Gandhi Darshan director Deepankar Abhi Gyan today had a threadbare discussion with Arunachal NYP president H P Biswas & vice president Pradeep Kumar to revive single-person run loin loom culture, least the age-old technology extinct.
Disclosing that a senior Arunachalee IAS officer's wife had given him in-depth knowledge about the famous handloom and handicrafts sector of the state, he suggested to take up skill development programme on loin loom and assured to extend full support.
He lauded a seven-member team from Jharkhand led by Dr Sunita Gupta for taking part in November 14-17 IT Trade Fair here. The team including Rajendra Kumar Rathod, and few young girls, all clad in Khadi, who always used to assist him, called on Gyan in his office.
"Your endeavours to popularise Gandhian philosophy would have a lasting impact on the younger generation and lead to communal harmony and peace for which Gandhiji had sacrificed his whole life. "Maintain the tempo as good deeds never go unrewarded", he added.
Gyan has taken an initiative to build a large museum to exhibit and sale Khadi, handloom & handicraft products to achieve the goal.
Turn Gandhiji's dream to a reality: Bhaiji

NEW DELHI, Nov 28: National Youth Project (NYP) director Dr S N Subba Rao today reiterated Gandhian philosophy of Khadi movement, communal harmony to prevent language and religious conflict and cottage industries to ensure jobs for every Indian.
Addressing NYP state representatives at a NYP-Gandhi Darshan collaborative event on skilling India, Dr Rao, lovingly called Bhaiji, said that India among 193 UNO members is unique for giving birth to four religions - Hindu, Buddha, Sikh & Jain, having world's highest recognised languages 18 and exhorted all to work for peace, communal harmony. That is why NYP members sing sarba dharma prayer, he reasoned.
He pointed out that Gandhiji, who had studied India during 1915 to 1920 after returning from South Africa, was elected Congress president in its Nagpur session and in 1924 session announced strategies to free Indians from poverty and grant them socio-political freedom through peace, communal harmony & nashabandi, Khadi movement & job for jobless.
Bhaiji lauded H P Biswas of Arunachal for linking Govt programme to benefit the beneficiaries. If this could be successful in remote Arunachal, all should take a cue to herald a new revolution in India. The real meaning of kranti or revolution is change of value. Guns used by extremist cannot bring revolution but spade, sickle, agri appliances alone could bring constructive revolution.
There was difference in words and actions of Gandhiji which made him Father of the Nation, NYP trustee Dr Ransingh Parmar said, adding Bhaiji is living legend of Gandhiji. The advocacy of Bhaiji to train lakhs of Indian youths that too following honesty makes him a unique personality, he added.
NYP secretary Ashok Saran thanked the trustees, particularly Bhaiji for inducting Biswas as a trustee in recognition of various innovative activities and appreciated Gandhi Darshan director Deepankar Abhi Gyan for his support for various programmes.
Arunachal NYP vice president Pradeep Kumar later recalled his interview with Bhaiji in 2012 when he had described Arunachal Pradesh as a living symbol of Bharatiya sanskruti (Indian culture) as its multi-ethnic tribals speak numerous languages, live peacefully in communal harmony and embrace any guest with true spirit of Atithi Devo Bhavo reflecting unity in diversity symbolizing the time-tested Indian ethos.
He highlighted as to how the NYP has so far skilled about 60,000 mostly unemployed and those belonging to BPL category, 3,640 people with disabilities (PWDs) in collaboration with Ali Yavar Jung National Institute for Hearing Handicapped besides CM's Livelihood Mission School, an initiative of former minister late Setong Sena with his MLALAD fund, at Nampong which has so far skilled 144 youth including 67 girls to capture local markets.
Biswas, as Arunachal president, added that NYP has set up 54 training centres in various parts of the remote state to train in 36 trades.
Police nabs accused Shankar Eri
SEPPA, Nov 28: Accused Shankar Eri of Eri village in Chayangtajo, East Kameng district who is wanted in Seppa Police Station under case no. 73/2016 U/S- 366(A)/376/343/506 IPC R/W Section 4 of POCSO Act, has been apprehended by a police team led by Sub-Inspector, Amo Pansa, here on Sunday last.
Acting on a tip-off SI, Amo Pansa, who is the investigating officer of the case along with Sl K Wangsu, Constables R Tabri and K Mossang nabbed the accused from Seppa main market.
The said accused was evading arrest since Aug.13 last, the same day when martyred DYSP, Bomto Kamdak and his team were on their way to Eri village to apprehend him. The team led by DYSP, Kamdak had conducted another operation to apprehend wanted accused Tagyung Yangfo at Sangrungwa village under Chayangtajo circle wherein he lost his life. (DIPRO)
Former Sunpura ASM passes away
SUNPURA, Nov 28: Former Sunpura Anchal Samiti Member Chow Anika Mein passed away at the age of 62 after brief illness at S K Dey Nursing Home, Tinsukia on November 24. Late Anika is survived by his wife Nang Walika Mein, who is the present ASM of Sunpura and three children.
Youngest brother of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, late Anika was also a successful entrepreneur and ardent social worker; loved by all for his compassionate nature and work ethics.
Meanwhile, the Khampti community has deeply mourned the demise of late Anika and prayed to Lord Buddha to give the family strength to endure the irreparable loss.
Free education on Bhoti language
ITANAGAR, Nov 28: The Department of Karmik & Adhyatmik (Chos- Rig) Affairs which has been imparting lessons on Bhoti language at Siddarth Vihar Gonpa here since last two years has invited all the keen learners irrespective of caste and creed to join the course and avail the free education on Bhoti language. It may be mentioned here that Ven Jampa Sonam, Acharya in Buddhist Philosophy has also joined as a teacher to impart training on Bhoti language.

ZPC KK seeks deployment of state vigilance team
ITANAGAR, Nov 28: ZPC Kurung Kumey Sangha Tagik facing the ire of the PRI leaders in the form of no confidence motion has sought deployment of state vigilance team against the move.
In his letter to the chief secretary cum chief vigilance, he alleged ADC cum member secretary Zilla Parishad, Yowa Tapu of plotting against him in the absence of DC.
It has come to know that no representation of no confidence motion was submitted by any individual or group before the member secretary, it claimed.
The four ZPM's who resigned from INC on Nov 15 withdrew their resignations on Nov 17 so no way the member secretary and PPA could have conducted the acceptance and merger hearings on Nov 18 and 19, the ZPC further claimed.
